Andorinha Small Black

12.00

Raphael Bordallo Pinheiro, the genius creator of Caldas da Rainha crockery, designed the iconic Andorinha (swallow) in 1896, which quickly became a tremendous Portuguese symbol.

Today, the swallows inhabit portuguese houses, and anywhere portuguese have settled around the globe.

Is deeply rooted in the culture and people believe that it brings hope, luck, and love.

Is also an emblem of the beautiful city of Lisbon.

Pinheiro’s Andorinha comes packaged in a beautiful and ingenious box which, once opened, also becomes reading material. Two in one!

To prevent the swallows from detaching from the wall, we’ve created a cork fastener to fix it to the wall with a nail or screw (not included) and fit the swallow in.

Raphael Bordallo Pinheiro

Raphael Bordallo Pinheiro is one of the most influential artists of the Portuguese culture during the nineteenth century.

With a remarkable production, particularly regarding humoristic drawing, caricature, and ceramic creations, Bordallo Pinheiro is part of Portuguese History. His remarkable work with ceramics was awarded the gold medal in international exhibitions (Madrid, Antwerp, Paris, and St. Louis, United States).

Fábrica de Faianças das Caldas was established on June 30, 1884, and still operates today. Adopting a modern and entrepreneurial approach, Bordallo Pinheiro plays an essential role in revitalizing Portuguese ceramics.

The artistic heritage of its factory still glows on the national and international art scene. Bordallo Pinheiro remains faithful to tradition by using ancestral manufacturing techniques and the naturalistic motifs at the root of its great project.

At the same time, it gives its lines a contemporary dimension, thanks to the excellence of its production and its continuous reinvention, both at the aesthetic and technical level.

The brand’s utilitarian and decorative pieces continue to feed our collective imagination and take the prestige of Portuguese culture and industry one step further.
